On this day in history (August 10th)

Here are a few things that happened on this day, throughout history:

On Aug. 10, 1962, Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man made his debut in issue 15 of "Amazing Fantasy" (cover price: 12 cents).

  • If you have one of these original comic books now, it is priced at $140,000.  Can you imagine??

On Aug. 10, 1977, David Berkowitz, the suspect in the "Son of Sam" murders, was arrested.

  • David Berkowitz confessed to killing 6 people and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for each murder, making his maximum term 365 years.

On Aug. 10, 2008, Michael Phelps won a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, demolishing his previous world record by 2 seconds in the 400-meter individual medley.

  • Michael Phelps holds the record for most Olympic medals, at a staggering 22.  He also holds the records for gold medals of all-time.  Not to mention that he isn't bad on the eyes ;)
Sometimes the only way to look forward is by glancing back to see what is behind you.  I think history is neat, and hope to always show my kid how much it shapes us as a civilization.

If you want to see more things that happened on this day throughout past years, you can check out these sites (whom I am fully crediting for this post):

I also did a comic book price check through Comic Book Price Guide and researched David Berkowitz on Wikipedia.

One of the neatest things I like to do is see what happened on my son's birthday in history.  Has anything neat/interesting happened on your birthdate?
