Keratin Perfect Review

I've been pretty evil to my hair in the past.  I'm talking at at-home dye jobs that dried my hair out so bad that winter was the Anti-Christ.  My hair used to be so pretty and smooth... then the teenage years happened.

I've tried every shade of red imaginable, and even dyed my hair black at one point.  You can see the results of me trying to grow it back out in the bottom right picture up there.  I have fine hair anyway, just a lot of it, and all of that dye was not nice to it.  Especially when we had to strip the black, bleach it, and then dye it close to my natural color.  Take all of that hair dye and add in the damage from blow drying, crimping, and flat-ironing and my hair was just a mess.  It had gotten to the point where I went and had the traditional "mom cut" just to try to get rid of some of the dead ends.

But then I was given the opportunity to review KeratinPerfect's 30-Day At-Home Hair Smoothing System.  I am thoroughly impressed!  Not only did it make my hair smoother and shinier, but it's a lot more manageable too.  I even tried it on my step-daughter's unruly (and omg hold still, I'm trying to brush your hair!) mane. 

And, because I didn't have the camera while I was trying this out for the first time, Lexi's the one who's hair I'll be showing you.  

This is the kid we're talking about.  My seven year old step-daughter inherited her daddy's tiny curls and her mommy's frizz.  With an hour of patiently brushing, and a gallon of mousse, I'm usually able to tame the curls enough for public - but this is the hair she has most of the time.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her gorgeous locks when they're styled - but the frizzy mess? Grr. 

So it's a fairly simple process and took probably about 30 minutes from start to finish.

Step 1: Shampoo.  The first thing you do is massage a small amount (quarter size) of the PerfectPrep Pre-Treament Clarifying Shampoo into wet hair.  If you have virgin hair, you'll want to wash your hair three times, all other hair types you have to wash twice.  Don't rinse completely in between lathers, instead let the lather build up with each wash.  After the last shampoo, rinse thoroughly.

Step 2: Towel Dry.  Towel dry your hair until it's only slightly damn, and then gently comb through to get rid of any tangles.  Your hair will feel squeaky clean from the clarifying shampoo.  

Step 3: Apply.  Separate the hair into sections like in the picture below.  Apply the ThePerfector Treatment directly onto hair and comb through each section to distribute evenly.  Continue to apply and comb through entire mass of hair, combing away from your face for three minutes.  Leave the treatment on for ten minutes to process, but do not rinse it out.

Step 4: Blow Dry.  After the ten minutes for the treatment to process, blow-dry your hair until completely dry.

Step 5: Flat Iron.  Divide hair into sections again and flat iron 1-inch sections at a time following the guide that is in the handbook that comes with your KeratinPerfect kit.  For Lexi's virgin hair, the recommended temperature was 400°-450°F for 7 passes.  

Now there is a 48 hour waiting period before you can get your hair wet again.  This is to let the treatment fully set.  If your hair gets wet, you should blow-dry and flat-iron on a low temperature.

The Keratin treatment is heat activated, so for best results you should blow dry and flat-iron during the entire 30 days.

My thoughts:

Aside from the awesome-ness of the actual Keratin treatment, the flat iron is amazing.  I have never used one before that had an actual digital temperature display - It's always been a kind of guestimate for whether or not my flat iron was hot enough.  Oh, and it took less than 2 minutes to heat all the way up.  That's a major plus.

And as you can see from Lexi's before and after pictures, this stuff works great.  KeratinPerfect enhances your natural texture, giving your hair healthy movement, body and shine. The benefits of the system are cumulative: Your hair will only continue to improve with each treatment and will be more manageable and healthy from the inside out.

She went from Level 7 down to Level 2- and it has stayed manageable with the after care shampoo and conditioner.  We haven't had so much as a tear or nervous breakdown since I used this treatment on her hair.  I love it for my hair too.  Although I already have straight hair and the visual outcome wasn't too apparent for my tresses, I can tell a major difference.  It's so much softer and shinier, I have less bedhead when I get up, and it just feels healthier.
