When the children are tucked up safely in bed and are fast asleep, it is time for us - as parents - to relax. It can be quite stressful and busy looking after children for the whole day, and because they need to be kept entertained with all different sorts of things - games, crafts, educational tools, outdoor play - we can be left feeling exhausted and just want to relax on the sofa, in peace and quiet. However, to enable us to relax fully, we need to make the home tidy again.
There will undoubtedly be toys strewn all over the house; chalks, crayons, and pencils hiding under the sofa and in the hardest to reach places; crumbs of food littering the carpet, and books looking forlorn and lonely in random places. To enable us to relax properly and evenly, all of these things will need to put away where they belong, and the house will need a quick tidy-up (be that vacuuming or a quick sweep with a dustpan and brush). Once you have done all these jobs, check around the house again for bits you might have missed.
If you have a garage, and the children like to play in there throughout the day, safety, when they play, is essential. Ensure all tools, oils, and cleaning fluids are put out of reach and stored safely in a locked cabinet. You should also make sure that the garage doors are safe and that it is not possible for them to cause the children cuts when they brush against them, or they can’t trap their fingers in any gaps. Do some research on sites like Pjgaragedoors.com.au for a better idea of what your garage doors require. You should take the time to make sure there are no toys left in the garage, as the children could want that certain toy the next day and if it can’t be found, could cause temper tantrums.
Once everything has been put away to your satisfaction, it is time for you enjoy time to yourself. It could be a good idea to sit in a part of the house that is quiet and has a low level of light. That way, you can either choose to sit down with a drink of your choice and some snacks and simply reflect on the day, or you can take a book in that part of the house with you and get lost amongst the pages. It could also be good to play some peaceful music which you are familiar with and which you know helps your mind relax to its full capacity.
After you have relaxed fully, it could be a good idea to let your body completely unwind by taking a hot bath, doing some breathing exercises or listening to mindfulness podcasts. All of these aspects allow your body and mind to completely relax, enabling you to sleep peacefully and without hindrance. That way, you can wake up the next day ready for another busy period with your kids.
