Christmas 1982. My big sister was rockin' around the Christmas tree at our Great Gramma Velma's house. This was the place of all of our family's Christmas memories. To us, this was the most amazing place on Earth and adding this great of a holiday to it, there was nothing better.
Aunt Donna and Uncle Gary brought their kids, someone was always video taping with the big video recorder and my great Gramma's camera with a flash cube on top; it was like a photo shoot all night long. It was always into the new year before we got to see any pictures of the eventful night because there wasn't any 1-hour photo or digital camera service. To be honest I don't think we EVER got to see Gramma's pictures debut until the next big holiday at her house being on Easter.
Its been over 30 years since this picture was taken. It is one of the very few pictures that are left of our childhood Christmases because of a house fire in the late 1980's. We lost nearly everything. There were no back ups. The only copies were the ones we took in to get with the negatives. What I wouldn't do to be able to see all of young faces again. To be able to see the faces of the loved ones past that aren't here to spend the holidays with me.
I know first hand what that kind of loss feels like. The couches, beds, clothes and toys were all replaced, but the pictures and videos - the priceless stuff - can never be. None of that will be able to be shared after this generation is gone. We were the youngest ones there that remember it.
That's why YesVideo is such an amazing company. It's so important to back up the family video's to be able to share with our kids what it was like when they were little. To show our grandchildren what their mommy or daddy looked like when they were "that age".
Don't wait until it's too late to preserve those memories, or they may be gone forever. Dust off those old videos and send them in to be preserved.
